The Vanton Brothers attempted To bring a Inside Rugby set to market using Zeugo players thanks to there contract with Parodi. Information is very light on the ground and can only go by what info is out there. Apparently only about 50 of these sets were made, featuring France and New Zealand. My guess is it never took of so no more teams where ever created only the two in the set. There was a redesigned Scrummer too Known as the Scrumball (They actually Trademarked too), Also from the Pictures the ball is bigger than Subbuteo rugby of which brings it more in line with the oversized ball used in Subbuteo/Zeugo. As the ball was always a little closer to scale in the Subbuteo Rugby sets and therefore a bit harder to hit but that’s just an observation as i have never played Subbuteo Rugby. The heavy flat bases of Zëugo seem well suited to a rugby game compared to the Subbuteo rugby bases prehaps. Its a shame this didn’t take off as it looks generally a great set. I hope to find more info/receive more info on this range one day but i feel this is as good as it will get as this was not successful at all.
Update: I have kindly been sent some more pictures of the set with more promised:) It gives a more clearer view on some of the components of the set… From the pictures added the Scrumball looks completely different and looks to work differently but again thats just an outsiders thought. The ball has nice Inside branding unlike the Football in the the Football range of which was Zeugo Branded. The ball also has a flat point on side so you can stand it up with out need for a special kicker (As you can see no kicker in site. This looks to me that you would flick a figure at the ball for a conversion so the ball must be bigger but also lighter than the Subbuteo equivalent. Again this is all a guess. and will happily be corrected. This just adds more fuel to the fire that they really tried to innovate the rugby game (unlike zeugo/inside of which is just Subbuteo clone through and through) which makes it even more of a shame that it didn’t succed
Also added at the bottom of the page is the full rule book too (click on the tab to see. It is in french but its still great to see) I haven’t read it as a lazy English speaker i don’t speak any foreign language. so it may explain the set and rules and changes more. If there is any info in there i should know let me know haha 🙂
